Best Gifts for Surfers 2026: Picked by Surfers
Buying a gift for a surfer is harder than it looks. Most of what's marketed to them is either something they already own or something they'd never use.
So we asked the people who spend the most time in the water: our own team. We're a small group of surfers, bodysurfers, and lifeguards in Costa Mesa, California. These are the things we'd want to unwrap, and a few come from friends and neighbors we're glad to support.
Start With the Morning
Coffee shop gift card or whole bean coffee. Most surfers we know have a dawn patrol routine, and it usually ends with coffee. Hola Adios is a local Costa Mesa favorite. A gift card covers the post-surf stop, and their whole bean coffee works for anyone who lives too far to visit. If your surfer has a favorite shop closer to home, a gift card there is just as good. It's the gift that says "go get a burrito after your session."
Gear They'll Use Every Week
Yucca Fins. If your surfer bodysurfs, bodyboards, rides surf mats, loves open water swimming, or trains in the pool on flat days, fins are the gift they'll use most. Just to be clear, these are swim fins, not surfboard fins. They're built from premium Malaysian rubber, with a stiff blade for power and a soft foot pocket for comfort, and they float, so they're easy to find in heavy surf. Not sure which flex to buy? Fin accessories. Fin socks, laces, and pads are ideal stocking stuffers. Socks cut down on friction and hot spots, laces add a layer of security in heavy surf, and pads add cushioning for long sessions. They're inexpensive, and they make a good fin better.
A Merlyn Surf Mat. Surf mats are one of the simplest ways to get back in the water when the surf isn't ideal for a board. They pack down small and inflate quickly, so they travel well. A Yucca towel. Ours are soft, absorbent, 100% cotton. It's not a flashy gift, but every surfer needs one, and most of them are using a towel that's seen better days.

The Big One
A board from Grant Noble Surfboards. If you're shopping for someone special, or shopping for yourself, a Grant Noble board is a serious gift. Grant grew up in Costa Mesa and shapes twin fins and longboards that he rides himself. He's been vocal about keeping handshaping alive, and that shows in the boards. It's the kind of gift a surfer holds onto for years.
