New to the surf mat but interested for a while so the price was right. Easy to pack, easy to inflate, and even though there's a quite a learning curve it has been so fun since the first time I had it out. Wish I had bought one a while ago.

I've only had my Merlyn out a few times and in all honesty, our waves haven't been all that spectacular to start with, but....... The sessions I've had and the waves that I got into (ok, just the silky sweet ones) have been extra super silly fun! I've heard my last name hooted out by total strangers. ( ok, they were all my close friends) but they did hoot! This inflatable sack of rubber has been a time portal back to the 1970s and the days of wave riding in my youth with my bestest friends...
Absolutely STOKED! Do not buy one of these if you dislike excitement... But, if you do.....

A buddy of mine turned me onto the whole surf Matt idea. I went out with him and he was catching tons of waves so I thought I would give it a try. Really fun!

This worked out perfectly. First surf mat I’ve owned but super clutch as was able to fold it up and pack it for a family vacation down to Mexico. And continued to served me well so far at HB, Moonlight, Oceanside. Great alternative if ya can’t bring your board.

Review 2— it’s been 6 weeks. The rafts do not stay inflated. Very well. Every wave you catch you’ll need to remove small cover and blow it up. They are fun to ride but for the cost Id expected a better quality.

Thanks for the update, and sorry to hear it's been a hassle every session. A little air loss between sessions is actually expected, because cold water temps cause the air inside to compress, similar to how a car tire reads low in winter. Most riders top off with a few breaths before paddling out. But needing to fully reinflate after every single wave sounds like more than normal compression, and that's not the experience we want you to have.

My first using a surf mat. There definitely is a bt of a learning curve, particularly in pretty big waves that are coming in very fast. I have to learn how to get out before where waves are breaking. I was using surf board wax to help stay on and didn't last very long. I wished I had a mini also because I had a hard time getting on in deeper water. None of this was the fault of the mat which seems to be made well and definitely worth the money. If you haven't tried surf matting it is a blast and I am 76 years old and doing it in Costa Rica.
